Old Drogheda Society President's Lunch
The Annual Old Drogheda Society President's Lunch will be held on Sunday December 2nd in the Boyne Valley Hotel, Drogheda at 1pm.
This year's guest speaker will be Eamon Duffy, who will need little introduction to most people in the area. He came to Drogheda in the sixties when his family bought the former Joey Kelly's pub in West Street, and opened the Gem Restaurant and Bar.
Eamon began his working life in Butlin's Holiday Camp in Mosney, moving to manage The Merchant Pub in Dublin. With his wife Alma he bought the Gem and turned it into the Weavers, which quickly became one of the country's best known pubs.He was the driving force behind the Drogheda Raft Race, the Pram Race and Funanza all of which were hugely successful, before selling the Weavers.
He joined the National Council for the Blind and was instrmental in organising Blazing Saddles, the internationally renowned arm of the NCBI, raising millions for the charity.
Eamon is also very well known in rugby circles due to his involvement with Boyne Rugby Club and the Leinster Branch of the IRFU.
