Old Drogheda Society Walk n Talk Wednesday July 25th 2018 7:30pm

Led by Brendan Matthews, this Walk n talk will take in the origins & history of the Drogheda Port.
Brendan will begin the evening at the junction of Mayoralty St. and the Mall, where he will outline the original width of the Boyne in this area before the reclamation of the tide-flow and slob-land and the construction of the subsequent quays. Brendan will speak about the history of trade from the port, of the formation of the Drogheda Harbour Board and of the deepening & straightening of the River Boyne.
The port saw many people leave Ireland for a brighter future , especially during the Famine period and he will relate on the research that saw him discover more about the three Ottoman Empire sent by the Sultan to help the Irish people .
The tour will end at the entrance to the Drogheda Port and Steam-packet Quay where Brendan will tell the tale of the original location of Fiddle-case Pier and the origins and history of Donor`s Green. The evening will begin at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend on the evening.
